HL/HCL Gifts, Grants & Special Projects

A small portion of the funding that Harvard Library receives each year is marked for special projects — milestone-driven initiatives that support the Library’s strategic directions. Funding for HL and HCL grants or special projects is either awarded to grantees (approved by Library leadership) or given in support of a particular library initiative.

Projects include particular donor gifts, grant-funded work, and other time-bound and milestone-driven special projects. These can be funded through external sources such as government agencies, foundations, non-governmental organizations, or special donor gifts. Funding can also come from internal Harvard programs.

The Office of the Chief of Staff, along with other Library teams, facilitates the administration of these special projects.

The following pages contain more information on how to pursue a grant or special project and related questions on this process.
